Did you get what you wanted for Mother’s Day? I did.
When my husband asked what I wanted for Mother’s Day I told him, for breakfast: French Toast with strawberries, cream and maple syrup. For the present he was to nip down to Aldi and pick up two jewellery hangers for my wardrobe, so I could turn the clump of tangled chains and rings residing in my bedside table into separate, neat rows.
To set this in stone I purchased all the ingredients for the breakfast, helped him find a recipe for French Toast on the iPad and set a reminder in his phone to go to Aldi.
I learnt a long time ago that subtle hints just don’t work. The turning point was when he asked me if I would like an ice cream from the shop, my mouth said no but my face and intonation said yes. So, did I get that ice cream – no.
So why don’t they just get it? Why is it so hard for them to read to us? Unfortunately ladies they just aren’t wired for it. Men and women have a very different way of processing information. Subtle hints and looks just aren’t going to cut it.
As females we need to cut them some slack and help them out a little. Of course you would like a surprise under the tree at Christmas time. The gift of a fishing rod one year wasn’t quiet the surprise I was after.
But now he buys a couple of surprises to go with the requested present. Like the unexpected gift voucher at a posh day spa to go with the jewellery hangers. (Can’t wait to book that massage.)
If your man misses the mark repeatedly, forget the hints and start being more obvious. Of course we all want somebody who just understands us. But we also have be a little clearer with the messages we send.
Is that what makes a romance so appealing, seeing the hero learn to read what the leading lady wants, to finally treat her like the goddess she is?
Initially he might get it terribly wrong but it doesn’t take him long to work out he’s on another page when the woman who has captured his heart storms off in a huff to leave him standing in bewilderment.
By the end the couple seem to work in unison or the man captured his heart storms off in a huff to leave him standing in bewilderment.
By the end the couple seem to work in unison or the man capitulates to win her love.
I guess we all want that magical man that reads our mind and knows when we need a hand around the house or just a simple hug. Just remember ladies there’s nothing wrong with asking for what you want.
